Local Action Group

The Local Action Group (LAG) is a group of individuals who broadly represent the interests of the North York Moors, Coast and Hills LEADER area and its communities. The Group helps to set policy and provide strategic steer to the LEADER programme. The LAG appoints an Executive Group through a nomination and election process and delegates decision making powers to them.

The Group meets at least twice a year with meetings held in different parts of the LEADER area.

Support is provided by the North York Moors National Park (as the Lead Partner) and North Yorkshire County Council (as the Accountable Body) and coordination of the LAG is undertaken by the LEADER Programme Manager and Programme Officer.

The LAG has a number of duties to perform in order to successfully deliver the Local Development Strategy. These include:

  • Development of capacity (skills, knowledge and ability) of the partnership to implement the Local Development Strategy
  • Administration of the LEADER partnership including holding regular (at least half yearly) meetings with the Executive Group to gain feedback and discuss how things are going
  • Encouragement and support of projects being delivered as part of the implementation of the Local Development Strategy, with particular reference to the 12 priority areas
  • Provision of strategic direction to the delivery of the Local Development Strategy, annual reviews, mid-term and final evaluations of the wider programme
  • Creation of a panel (the Executive Group) to appraise and select projects to be funded by the LAG
  • Publication of the use of EU and DEFRA funding through the LEADER approach by implementing the Communication Strategy
